My mission

I’m so happy that you’re here!

My name is Pamela San Miguel. As a writer and an editor of K–12 science and math educational content, I’m passionate about creating instructional materials that push students, open worlds, expand minds, and inspire lifelong love affairs with learning.

It comes with the territory that, as an editor, I notice errors in whatever writing or speech crosses my path. All the time. Everywhere. I can’t help it. Identifying grammar errors is my superpower. Sometimes, it drives me a little nuts, distracting me from the content in a can’t-see-the-forest-for-the-trees kind of way—Squirrel!

What I’ve noticed is that educated people—including those who are highly educated—make the same grammar mistakes over and over again.

Of course they do! Who’s there to correct them?

I realized that by sharing what I know, I could use my superpower for good to help others hone their grammar skills. I just needed to get the word out. Thus, Common Errors Grammar Tips was born.

Why grammar is important

People communicate with each other in writing now more than ever. Today, everybody is a writer—which is awesome!—even if only of tweets and text messages. And encoded in every tweet and text message is metadata about the author. The way that a person writes (and also speaks) can reveal a lot in terms of his or her knowledge, background, quality of education, attention to detail, credibility, and more.

With competition in the professional world brutal these days, the small details matter. The contents of the email that you send to thank a potential client or employer for the opportunity to interview may be the determining factor in whether you are hired, setting you apart from other applicants.

Your writing is a reflection of you. Make sure that it conveys the right message.

Targeted fixes

Armed with a few simple rules, tips, and tricks, you can greatly improve the quality of your writing and speech—with minimal effort—and communicate with confidence in every situation.
